The proposed site is situated on a fairly level spur of land at 450m above sea level. The development lies between the waters of the river Enrick and Abhainn na Ruighe Duibh. To the East the land rises to the top of Suidhe Ghurmain at over 650m. To the Northwest the land is lower and is afforested. Part of this is the RSPB Corrimony reserve. The site is currently used for sheep and cattle grazing, with red deer also present.
An area has been surveyed around the turbine positions out to roughly 500m, delineated by the sub-catchments within which the development site falls. This would extend down to the two rivers on either side of the spur, as far as their convergence and along the route of the access track beyond.
The proposed site and the access track have been checked for all animals inhabiting the area with particular attention being paid to Pine Martin, Wildcat, Red Squirrel, Bats ,Badgers, Otters and Water Voles.
A year long Vantage Point survey is currently being carried out to study and record all the bird movements around and over the proposed site. Proposed primary target species are the following Annex 1 and Schedule 1 species.
In addition a survey of breeding birds out to 500m for Upland Waders and scarcer passerines, out to 2km for Raptors and on the lochs around the site for Divers will take place. Also Black Grouse leks out to 1.5 km from the site will be noted.
